LAN #15 – Overlord.depot.pylons
General Info:
Because most of us have played StarCraft religiously in some part of our life, we’re decided to co-opt the ‘Spawn more overlord.depot.pylons’ joke for this, our 15th LAN which is around about the release date for SC2.
However on with the actual important information! This LAN will be held on Saturday, July 31. Noon start-up, though doors open at 11.30AM. Event wraps up at 1AM, so a full 13 hours of madness.
Even bigger news though! With the recent vote to merge the TUU Anime Society into the TUU Digivisipop Society (who fund and control AI-CON LAN’s), its been decided that future screenings will be held at the LAN venue! See further below for a screening schedule. We will be screening all new current material, most of which is released in high def. Don’t hesitate to email me if you want to see something added. Nothing is too obscure!
Please remember that entrance is via the MAIN GATE via Howard Rd. Click here for a map specifying adjacent parking and event location. For those in the know we will be in the Administration Building, in the Patrons Room.
No Internet will be available, so Steam users please switch to offline. Boxes on the table this time, however you can place on floor at your own risk. We also remind people to bring a surge protecting device if possible as the LAN cannot provide that equipment.
Consider the following timetable a guide rather than an absolute.

LAN #14 – Complete
Sorry for the late write up – its been a trying week.
After the success of LAN #13, we were unsure if #14 could meet up to such high expectations. Sadly enough we were running week on from a TUCS lan & head to head with the WarHammer convention in the CBD. This cut our numbers significantly, down to about 14 boxes, with about 20 attendees in total.
This might have shaken the hearts of less strong groups, but we stood fast for a very entertaining day at our new venue in Hobart Showgrounds.
BattleField 2 was our first game of the day, with the action centering on ‘meat-grinder’ like events, with the room vs bots on infantry & tactics heavy game-play. Our sniper corps, consisting of Rev, MorgZ, bot_Morgz were both notorious and lethal.
From that point on the schedule was essentially gutted by rule of the room.
The Lunch run was bumped up and thanks to our decision to deal exclusively with Hungry Jacks, we suffered no real delays or misfortunes.
KillingFloor was then inserted into playlist, much to the delight of the room. Some server issues caused a certain amount of lag for the first part, however once the error was sorted massive amounts of fun were had. None of the 6+ player maps were in the line up, however thanks to player balancing most of the room got the opportunity to play with each other at some point.
WarCraft3 (1.21b) custom maps; DoTA & Castle Fight were the next game. Several hours rushed by in short order, with Scott being the clear winner in DoTA and the humans prevailing against the AI in Castle Fight.
Team Fortress 2 then exploded onto the floor which pretty much everyone joining in for some red VS blue action. Notable stars of the evening where Dhark & Snark, who utilised the double medico + uber combo to leverage extremely frustrating wins against the opposing side. Constantly. Assholes.
The dinner run was… challenging. Slower and less refined, the Pizza Hut website on its best day is cumbersome. However once everyones order was in, the web form promptly shut down. The same happened to the terminal of the customer service representative. Which was later followed up by excuses and delays from Pizza Hut local management. Wasted time; 45 minutes.
We gave up and went with Domino’s. 18 pizzas. 4 sides. 5 minute order time. 15 minutes to pick up. We know where we’re going back to next time.
KillingFloor was then voted back in after dinner, which turned into an extended play run, with the gloves coming off and the difficulty getting cranked up. There was excitement, cries and rage in the air, right up until we wrapped up.
Despite lackluster turn out and questionable timetable interpretation, everyone who came along had a great time, with plenty of leeching. From an organiser perspective a lot was also learnt, which will hopefully make the next LAN a superior experience. Once again I thank every single person who stayed to help clean up the venue. We could not have done it without your help.
We continue to encourage people to invite friends & family to the LAN’s to help us grow and continue to offer one of the friendliest LAN’s in Tasmania.
Please remember to sign up to either our mailing list on the right, or our Facebook Group. It’s an outstanding way to keep in contact with people and inform them of new events.

LAN #13 – Complete
LAN #13 was a big concern for us as were debuting a new venue and we were running end on from Dark-Media. However those concerns were misplaced as we had our biggest LAN yet, with 25 boxes on-site and just a touch over 30 attendees between the consoles and tabletop gamers.
Massive props to everyone who stood up and helped run the different events, it made things alot smoother in general and it was great to see the community help each other.
Battlefield 2 was the first game of the day and the v1.5 patch again bricked installations, so we stayed with v1.4. Room vs Bots was the order of the day whilst the action was cut short towards the end by a server crash lots of laughs were had.
The Lunch run was difficult and we’ve finally had enough of McDonalds sub-standard packing practices & general performance, so all future lunch runs will be done through Hungry Jacks, to save time and so that people get well packed food.
CoD4 was a resounding success with Brett taking the lead in running the event. Amazingly CoD4 worked on almost all the boxes it was installed, prompting many to raise eyebrows at the previous audio issues. Hardcore mode & random teams served as a fun way to separate the men from the sheep, though some rage-quits were had. Overall Brett & Scott dominated the event, whilst mystery player ‘Crimson’ managed to also turn up the heat against the opposing team.
WarCraft 3 proved to be an incredible time sink with Blue & Miguel running and teaching the room the finer points of DoTA. Given that the event ran over CnC3′s time block and the server was full every time, there can be no question as to its success, however timing may need to be reviewed later.
Rev, G, Snark, Blue, Dhark & Saril rocked the Castle Fight server for many hours, with insane unit spam & strategy in equal margin. Given the vector fr complexity and gaming style, the game map will be played room wide at the next LAN.
Team Fortress 2 saw practically everyone join in and participate for some RvB action. Teams were actively balanced to help keep the event fair, however whether it was successful is debatable. Those details aside it proved to be an excellent event.
GRID was actually supplanted by TrackMania, shocking new comers with its difficult and insane maps. Whilst not a hit game it did carry us right to the end of the night, elbowing UT3 out of its position. G & Blah dominated most maps, with the most of the room as backseat drivers.
DC++ hub peaked at 10+ TB and thankfully most people were pre-hashed, except for some notable exceptions, however by and large everything worked out okay.
All in all LAN #13 was an outstanding LAN and massive props to everyone who stayed behind to help us clean up and sort out the venue.
We continue to encourage people to invite friends & family to the LAN’s to help us grow and continue to offer one of the friendliest LAN’s in Tasmania.

LAN #13 – Showgrounds
General Info:
After the awsomeness of LAN #12 we’ve decided that LAW131 can no longer contain our humble event. We thought long and hard and eventually we came to the conclusion that we simply must move to a larger venue! So I’m proud to announce we’re moving to the Hobart Showgrounds for our 3rd of July LAN.
All great changes are difficult, but hopefully this will be easy for all attendees. Please remember that entrance is via the MAIN GATE via Howard Rd. Click here for a map specifying adjacent parking and event location. For those in the know we will be in the Administration Building, in the Patrons Room.
This LAN will be a 13 hour event, beginning Saturday July 3rd at Noon, stretching on until 1AM the following day. No Internet connection will be available, so if your using Steam please switch it to offline mode.
We will once again be following a timetable, however consider it a guide rather than an absolute. We will once again be attempting to integrate COD4 into our play list. Please bear in mind that audio related problems are responsible for a 50% failure rate on install. This is Infinity Ward’s failing not ours so bear this in mind.
Dedicated server/File server will be running once again so if you’d like something to be running on the server, please email with a request. Wireless will be available but this is no excuse for not bringing a network cable.
The new event timetable is the following. Whilst the list is published, things may fall slightly askew.
| Time | Event | Duration |
| Noon – 1PM | Attendee setup/leech | 1 hr |
| 1PM – 3PM | Battlefield 2 (v1.5) | 2hrs |
| 3PM – 3.30PM | LUNCH BREAK | 30mins |
| 3.30PM – 5PM | Call of Duty: 4 (v1.7) | 1.5hrs |
| 5PM – 7PM | WarCraft 3 (v1.21) | 2hrs |
| 7PM – 8.30PM | CnC 3 Generals | 1.5hrs |
| 8.30PM – 9.30PM | Dinner / leech | 1hr |
| 9.30PM – 10.30PM | Team Fortress 2 | 1hr |
| 10.30PM – 11:45PM | GRID | 1hr15min |
| 11:45PM – 1:00AM | Unreal 3 | 1hr15min |
Copies will be provided for the unfortunate. Game play-list is subject to majority vote.
Our new venue will not have a projector running until we are able to afford one, so we will be relying on televisions. Console gamers will be provided space as part of the ongoing console fight game tournaments. This continues to be a crowd drawer so please come along & pick up a controller. If your only attending to participate in console games its only $5dls.

LAN #12 – Complete
LAN #12 was likely our most successful LAN to date with over 24 boxes on site all participating in some pretty fun LANing this Saturday past. Whilst some early on difficulties were had, we managed to have a great time. The (d)admin was suffering the flu which hurt organisation but otherwise it was a blast.
Whilst attendance was up, an early bug with the v1.5 patch for Battlefield 2 threatened to ruin things for the entire room. Luckily the patching process was stopped before too many installations was corrupted. The exact cause is still being investigated but there’s a lot of confidence that the culprit will be found so that v1.5 can be played at the next LAN.
Beyond the BF2 errors, network and power were fault free and drink sales were brisk.
The schedule once again creatively interpreted with CnC Generals being dumped from the play list due to time constraints. The console game turnout was also pretty small with Uriumaru saving the day once again with SF4 on the big screen. There should be a bigger showing next LAN I’m told. Read the rest of this entry »
LAN #12 – Zombification
General Info:
Sorry for the late promo. LAN #12 has now been confirmed for 19th of June! We will be running parallel to the Hobart Zombie March, so feel free to show up a little bit later and covered in blood!
Tthe LAN will be a 13 hour event, beginning Saturday June 19th at Noon, stretching on until 1AM the following day. No Internet connection will be available, so if your using Steam please switch it to offline mode.
We will once again be following a timetable, however consider it a guide rather than an absolute. We are taking into account failings at the previous LAN to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Dedicated server/File server will be running once again so if you’d like something to be running on the server, please email with a request. Hopefully wireless will be active this time around, which should prove useful for laptop based users.
The new event timetable is the following. Whilst the list is published, things may fall slightly askew. Read the rest of this entry »
LAN #11 – Complete
LAN #11 was an extemely solid event being held in our usual location of Law131. Attendance shrunk with 19 people showing up however a great time was had by all. Organisation suffered with yours truly failing to adhere to the timetable but the gaming was incredibly solid.
Network and power were running fault free and we continued to have a strong sale of Rockstar (500ml) and 300ml cans of soft-drink.
As mentioned previously the schedule wasn’t really adhered too, mostly because of complications stemming from problems with unvalidated games. All in all everyone had a really good time so that’s what mattered most. Read the rest of this entry »

Lan #10 – Complete
LAN #10, again held @ LAW131 was a resounding success with plenty of new & old faces joining in! Whilst the attendee base wasn’t as big as last LAN, we were definitely more organised and gaming focused. All in all things went pretty well, managing to avoid the usual screw-ups.
No power or network hitches this time around and the new availability of beverages went down rather well. Sadly Rockstar was supplanted by RedBull because of supply issues.
As usual the atmosphere was laid-back with lots of gaming. The schedule which was crafted was more of a … guide but in the end it all came together well. Attendance was about 20 or so people. A perfect storm of birthdays and events robbed us of some of the usual suspects but we still had a great time. Read the rest of this entry »
