LAN #8 – Complete

LAN #8 held @ LAW131was without doubt our best LAN ever. It was incredibly challenging, with some pretty big mis-steps at the beginning but once we got them out of the way we had an excellent time.

On the good news side, our dedicated server, core & extended network switches all functioned perfectly, there were no venue power issues and everyone had bundles of fun. Our fun was tempered somewhat by a half hour set up that ballooned to 2 hours because of forgotten equipment & non-working Internet. Attendees can rest assured that steps have been taken to assure this doesn’t happen again (:

UTAS IT deserve a massive thank-you for mobilising to ensure we had Internet, after dealing with SarilX’s phone rage for half an hour. The actual cause of the outage still remains a mystery however.

With all that said, everything else went rather smoothly, culminating in our biggest and most fun LAN yet! We had some 22 attendees over the length of the day, with both the console’ers and gamers getting along excellently. Big screen & personal TV’s got a work out with a variety of fighting games & even Rock Band being played at certain points. Read the rest of this entry »

LAN #8 – The promised LAN(d)

General Info:

LAN #8 is finally getting announced! We’ve secured UTAS Law131 for the next few LAN’s so hopefully no more interruptions or surprise venue changes.

This will be a single day event, starting on Saturday, April 24 at noon, stretching until Midnight. 12 consecutive hours of fun. No liquor licence, so no drinking in the immediate area. The event will be classified a solid M so please leave your sensibilities at home. Internet connection will be available as per usual.

This LAN will also serve as the debut for our dedicated servers:

In theory there should be 2 available for our needs. If you’d like something to be running on the server, please email with a request. Hopefully they should allow us to grow and support things such as tournaments and more players etc.

As usual the massive projector screen will be up and running, console gamers/dvd players are welcome based on a group vote.

EDIT: Yes we do welcome console gamers, and really would like some more fighting games. At this LAN we’re going to be trialing the intregration of PC and console gaming, so feel free to bring a console or a game down.

We will be operating a DC++ HUB. This will be the only method of leeching available. We’ll be using YnHub and we STRONGLY encourage the use of DC++ 0.761. Please pre-hash your files.

As we are paying venue hire for this event, all participants are required to pay $10.00 dollars to attend.

Lan #7 – Complete

LAN #7, better known as “Buckets-O-Fail” was actually a surprisingly good and long LAN. Despite the new and somewhat remote location in Tranmere, we managed to indulge in just over 30 hours of LAN’ing goodness.

The event was limited to a select core of 8 people, as per the owner’s request. Apologies to those that were unable to attend. If it’s any consolation, we did have a great time. (:

Internet and switching gear was rock solid, however our long awaited server didn’t arrive in-time for the event.

Little leaching action asides from game sharing was done, even with a 2tb peak share. Stat box is still down. Read the rest of this entry »

LAN #7 – Buckets-O-Fail

General Info:

We’re up to our 7th LAN for 2010! As UTAS Venue Hire has decided to mess up our booking and TUCS LAN has picked up the slot and its taken me this long to sort out the details we’ve christened this LAN as “Buckets-o-fail”.

This will be a single day event, starting on Saturday, April 10th at noon, stretching until sometime into the next day. 12+ consecutive hours of fun.

A shadowy figure has offered up his private residence for this one, so bring your alcohol we’re primed and ready. The one catch is that this event is closed to the public and invite only. The event will be classified R18+ so please leave your sensibilities at home. Unsure about the Internet connection so I’ll update as information surfaces.

This LAN will hopefully be the debut of our new dedicated server, to better meet our LANing needs.

We’ll likely have a projector set up for movies and spectator duty, so bring your DVD’s!

We will be operating a DC++ HUB. This will be the only method of leeching available. We’ll be using YnHub and we STRONGLY encourage the use of DC++ 0.75. Please pre-hash your files.

Private residence, so you don’t pay to play.

Lan #6 – Complete

LAN #6 @ LAW131was definately a solid LAN. Once again limited to 12 hours, we made the very best of it, with some excellent gaming and leeching.

The debut of the extended capacity network was a rotund success, with nary a single glitch for the duration of the event. With a theoretical capacity for 70 attendees, we’re not going to need to upgrade for the near future.

UTAS internet was also rock-solid. Available from the get go, so a huge nod to UTAS IT for getting the job done.

Attendance dipped from last LAN, with a total of 10 attendees over the 12 hours. Some of the usual suspects were missing and it seems no new faces were seen. I have to remind people, please invite your friends, be it via word of mouth or through our facebook group, which can be found here.

No leeching stats again, all I know was peak share was at 2.9TB. I’ve an idea that should keep our stat box running in the future…
