Lan #10 – Complete
LAN #10, again held @ LAW131 was a resounding success with plenty of new & old faces joining in! Whilst the attendee base wasn’t as big as last LAN, we were definitely more organised and gaming focused. All in all things went pretty well, managing to avoid the usual screw-ups.
No power or network hitches this time around and the new availability of beverages went down rather well. Sadly Rockstar was supplanted by RedBull because of supply issues.
As usual the atmosphere was laid-back with lots of gaming. The schedule which was crafted was more of a … guide but in the end it all came together well. Attendance was about 20 or so people. A perfect storm of birthdays and events robbed us of some of the usual suspects but we still had a great time.
Sadly though the console scene was pretty desolate, with few takers coming during the day.
DC++ share peaked at 6.5tb, which whilst lower than the previous LAN still had plenty to leech. I once again encourage new faces to pre-hash at home to avoid computer slow-downs at the LAN.
BattleField 2 (v1.4) was the first order of the day, with most of the room getting in on the action. Lots of team switching madness and of-course Room VS 30 bots proved to be a highlight. BF2 continues to be one of the more exciting and fun games we play at AI-CON Lan’s.
Command % Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath proved to be shortlived and yet fun. Very much a case of sheep amongst wolves with death coming swiftly for those un-skilled.
TF2 was also a resounding success, with everyone enjoying Valve’s more insane team shooter. No clear winners, however those who mastered their preferred class showed the entire room how best to dominate.
However perhaps the game that drew the most laughs and exclamations was GRID. Many modes were played with room favorites being Destruction Derby & San Fransisco tracks.
Currently AI-CON LAN’s is testing the limits of LAW131 in regards to capacity, however we will continue to hold events there for the foreseeable future. We’re welcome for suggestions as to a slightly larger venue of course.
We do encourage everyone to invite friends & family to the LAN’s to help us grow and continue to offer one of the friendliest LAN’s in Tasmania.
Please remember to sign up to either our mailing list on the right, or our Facebook Group. It’s an outstanding way to keep in contact with people and inform them of new events.
